Project1-Touch Before We Talk

BIO / Touch Before We Talk

People occasionally face ambiguous relationships and don’t know how to respond. They might feel awkward or unconfident, whether in a romantic relationship or with those around them.

I wanted to explore how to visualize these intangible connections, and to encourage people not to fear stepping into uncertain relationships.

We sometimes find ourselves caught in ambiguous relationships, unsure of how to respond. There’s a quiet awkwardness, a lack of confidence—whether in love or simply with those around us.

This project explores how to give form to the formless, to make the invisible visible—and to say: don’t be afraid of the unknown.

To visualize the idea, I explored using cyanotype and weaving to create an installation that connects two people—simulating an invisible bond. These two techniques are ideal for capturing emotions that emerge and fade, and for expressing the continuous connection between individuals.

For the materials, I chose organza and optical fiber. Organza is soft and subtly transparent, making it perfect for representing the dynamic and delicate nature of emotional relationships. Optical fiber, on the other hand, was used to express the occasional sparks and moments of passion that arise in intimacy.

Different gestures were scanned to capture their patterns, which were then transferred onto organza through cyanotype and incorporated into the installation.
